Let's say we specifically want the ship to be a step up - or at least equal to - the 'One Pilot' ships that are roughly it's size. Let's compare some 'free bunks' of similar ships: Heavy Shuttle +7, Kimek Thorn +6, Clipper +6, Scout +10, Marauder Bounder +16, Bounder +16. Maybe we should make the sprite a bit bigger as well. After all, in this game typically, heavier is better. That'll give us some excuse for some interesting stats. That's the cutoff for 'light ship, too small to be a Light Warship'. Here you go give it the mass of a Marauder Bounder - 145 - the highest mass an Interceptor SHOULD have (Hawks should probably have their mass lowered to 140, since the Marauder bounder is the 'heaviest' Interceptor). This game is missing a LOT of 'non-capital ship' possible content! Also, making it clear and away better than all the 1-crew ships, and a goodly number of the 2 crew ships, would be very interesting. a 1 crew ship that can do more than just fight, things that would normally require other crew, would help with that. It makes many mission rewards meaningless. I dont like having to have millions in the bank. Maybe the ship can count as 2 crew for purposes of turrets or luxury quarters in general? Lean in to the 'you don't have to pay money to maintain this ship.' I like the idea of enabling gameplay that lets you not have to be super-rich. To my knowledge that is: a.) luxury quarters, and b.) most attack turrets. I'd like options that would normally require crew to not require crew. The luxury quarters thing was a bit about leaning all-in on the 'smart, living ship' thing. Hell, an asteroid one wouldn't be terrible either - but that should have some sort of option to toggle it. And I'd like tactical/outfit/cargo to all have the same range, if possible. I edited my original post to remove the gasline bit.īy extra scanners, I mean also cargo.

There have been a few tweaks that improve the Penguin a bit. That being said, I highly encourage you to upgrade to playing with a nightly or continuous version of ES, such as the ES Launcher. I appreciate the ideas, and look forward to seeing what you think of changes going forward. There are, however, other specialty jobs that I am currently implementing that - after a connecting mission - it will be eligible for. That being said, counting as luxury quarters is probably not one of them. In terms of improvements, one thing that is likely to happen is that - as it is an experimental prototype - it will continue to improve as plot progresses, and gain additional abilities. So don't expect a huge range or anything). (caveat: Due to the way scanner power works, them being roughly double the power means that they have roughly a quarter more range. Anyway, just try scanning things like normal with the default keys, and they should work just fine. It does have built in tactical and outfit scanners at a roughly double the power of human equivalents (slightly less than double tactical scanner, and exactly double outfit scanner).

A starling can easily exceed it in every respect except visiting gas giants. That being said, I agree - it isn't really a useful ship even by that point.

We are not even close to the quarter mark in the Remnant story. I realize that the penguin feels like a late-game acquisition, but the current Remnant missions are barely getting started on their story. In continuous/nightly builds all the gas giants in the Remnant systems are also visitable)

Note: In official releases, the gas giants in Nenia are the only visitable gas giants in the game. (if you aren't on a continuous/nightly build - the gascraft has been renamed the puffin). It's basic purpose is to be an upgraded and much more useful puffin. If you can't land on the gas giants in Nenia while flying it, then there that is a bug. That being said, I do want them to be cool things that people enjoy having. So I'm not going to gate major content behind either one of them, nor make either one of them a "must have" sort of thing. Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate hearing what people think of it.įirst off, the Penguin (and the Void Rifle) are designed to be easter eggs that reward people who just want to go hang out with the void sprites *without* having a mission telling them to go do so.
